Funding will help ensure victims and their children who need it are able to access life-saving support in safe accommodation.
This is part of a wider allocation of £125 million to councils across England to provide support for victims of domestic abuse and their children, Minister for Rough Sleeping and Housing Eddie Hughes announced today (12 February 2021).
The funding will help ensure victims and their children who need it are able to access life-saving support such as therapy, advocacy and counselling in safe accommodation, including refuges.
Birmingham Northfield MP, Gary Sambrook said "Domestic abuse and violence is a horrible crime which threatens the lives of victims in their own homes. A place they should feel safe.
So, I welcome this announcement, I know it's something which many campaigners have called for and lobbied me about."
Birmingham Conservative Group Leader, Cllr Robert Alden added " This is very welcome news. It’s right that we’re giving victims support in safe accommodation and I welcome the additional allocation of £3.2 million to Birmingham so they can deliver essential services that will help them and their children rebuild their lives."
